If you prefer a more linear description of how to Find Various Tools, Functions and File Directories in Revit proceed below the video for a step-by-step written account complete with descriptor imagery. It is embedded below if that is your preferred learning format, so I hope you enjoy it!
Note: I have created an accompanying video that illustrates the full 29 tips for Finding Things in Revit. So, rather than delay any further, let’s just get into it. The second Focuses on Revit Data Directory Locations and finding various Model Management functions. This list is broken down into Two Sections – Finding Elements within the Revit Modelling Environment is the first. In order to aid others (and act as a permanent reference for myself to quickly check back on when I inevitably forget something), I have put together a quick but detailed guide below, listing 29 Tips for Finding Things in Revit.
This means that individuals then focus on developing their understanding of how the software functions and stop concerning themselves over the mundane, such as navigation tools and selection methods.
One thing I have found through my experience of individually training dozens of new Revit personnel over many years is that familiarisation with the User Interface, file locations and really understanding how to select and scrutinise elements within a Revit model is a valuable kickstart to their learning process. It also has a significant amount of nuance which users have to become familiar with overtime, such as how and why families perform and act differently from one another (a particularly hard concept for experienced AutoCAD drafters to become accustomed to, as a Block is a Block in CAD). It is a very large, capable and detailed software package, which can be further confused by the number of acronyms and discussions which surround the greater world of BIM in which Revit is so integral. I’ll provide the links to the downloads below which are acquired from the Autodesk Virtual Agent.Revit can be an intimidating tool to learn.
The video above shows the error message you could receive if your license file only contains the updated Revit 2017 license. As such, users who previously owned these versions of Revit will automatically have been upgraded to Revit 2017 if they maintained an active maintenance subscription plan.īecause of this automatic upgrade, network license users who previously had a license file for an eligible version of either Revit Architecture, Revit Structure, or Revit MEP who decide to obtain a new license for Revit 2017 will run into some difficulties. As of the 2017 release, the individual versions of Autodesk Revit (Revit Architecture, Revit Structure, and Revit MEP) will no longer be available.
If you have recently updated or are planning to update your licenses of Revit Architecture, Revit Structure, or Revit MEP there’s something you will want to be aware of.
